  Zoom Out:

This tool allows you to zoom out to a larger area then currently displayed

Zoom Out With Point

Click on this tool, then EITHER:

Left-click with your mouse on a single point on the map. Your cursor should be a 'cross' shape.

A new map will be displayed that is a larger area then was displayed before. It will be centered on the location where you clicked. There will be a small red mark on the point where you clicked on the original map.

The red box inside the overview map shows the extent of the map display.
OR:

Zoom out with Rectangle

Left-click with your mouse at a point on the map BUT HOLD your finger on the button, drag a rectangle on the map and then release the button. Center your area of interest inside the rectangle.

A new map will be displayed containing the area of the rectangle you just dragged.

The red box inside the overview map shows the extent of the map display.
